Education:
After attending Adelphi University
majoring in Chemistry on academic scholarship and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with High Honors in 1979, he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery
from Stony Brook Univesity in 1983. Dr. Amato was awarded the School of Dental Medicine Department of Periodontics Award
for Excellence in Periodontology.
Dr. Amato received his Specialty Certificate
of Proficiency in Periodontics in 1985 from Eastman Dental Center at the University of Rochester. Dr. Amato has since limited his practice to Periodontics and Dental
Implant placement and is in solo practice in Monroe, CT since 1989.
Active in periodontal research
throughout his education years, Dr. Amato was a Clinical Instructor of Periodontics at the University of Connecticut School
of Dental Medicine teaching both post-doctoral and undergraduate clinical periodontics.
Dr. Amato served on the Monroe
Board of Health from 1992 to 2001. He was the chairman from 1997 to 2001. He is also a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Connecticut
State Dental Association, Connecticut Society of Periodontists, and the Bridgeport Dental Association where he served as President
from 2001 to 2002. He has spend thousands of hours on continuing professional education over the years to refine techniques
and bring newer technologies to his patients in the fields of periodontics, osseous regeneration and minimally invasive techniques.
Active in local civic organizations, Dr. Amato is a recent
past commander of the Housatonic River Sail and Power Squadron, the local chapter of the United States Power Squadron an organization
dedicated to teaching basic safe boating skills to the public. He earned his US Coast Guard Captain's license in 2008.
In a first of its kind survey,
CONNECTICUT Magazine asked dentists around the state who they would send a family member to and rated Dr. Amato a TOP Periodontist
in its August 2008 issue.
An avid skiier, guitarist, gym
enthusiast and boater, he can be quite
busy when not in the office following his philosophy "Work hard, Play hard".
