Education:
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Amato attended Adelphi University majoring in Chemistry
on academic scholarship and graduated with High Honors. He then received
his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from Stony Brook University where he was awarded the School of Dental Medicine Department
of Periodontics Award for Excellence in Periodontology.Dr. Amato completed a
specialty post-doctoral residency and received his Certificate of Proficiency in Periodontics in 1985 from Eastman Dental Center at the University of Rochester. He spent four years gaining
further experience in several large group practices. Dr. Amato has limited his practice to Periodontics and Dental Implant
placement and Laser Periodontal therapy with emphasis on minimally invasive procedures and has been in full
time practice in Monroe, CT since 1989. Active in periodontal research throughout
his education years, Dr. Amato is a former Clinical Instructor of Periodontics at the University of Connecticut School of
Dental Medicine teaching both post-doctoral residents and undergraduate dental students clinical periodontics. He was
awarded a Fellowship from the Institute of Advanced Laser Dentistry in 2011. Dr. Amato served on the Monroe Board of Health from 1992 to 2001. He was the chairman from 1997 to
2001. He is also a member of the American Academyof Periodontology, American Dental Association, Connecticut State Dental Association, Connecticut
Society of Periodontists, and the Bridgeport Dental Association where he served as President from 2001 to 2002. He has spend
thousands of hours on continuing professional education over the years to refine advanced techniques and bring new technologies
to his patients in the fields of periodontics, osseous regeneration, dental implants and minimally invasive techniques.
He is the first licensed provider of LANAP laser periodontal therapy in Fairfield County, CT and a member of the
Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry. Active in local civic organizations, Dr. Amato is a recent past commander of the Housatonic River
Sail and Power Squadron, the local chapter of the United States Power Squadron an organization dedicated to teaching basic
safe boating skills to the public. He earned his US Coast Guard Captain's OUPV License in 2008. In 2008 in a first of its kind survey, CONNECTICUT Magazine asked dentists around the state who they
would send a family member to and rated Dr. Amato TOP Periodontist in its August issue. In April 2010 survey of local
general dentists rating specialists for Greenwich Magazine, Dr. Amato is selected as Top Periodontist. In the August
2010 Connecticut Magazine, Dr. Amato is again selected first in the list of Top Periodontists in the state. Again in 2011
Greenwich Magazine as well as Westport and New Canaan Magazine select Dr. Amato their Top Periodontist as chosen by local
dentists. An avid skier,boater and amateur chef, he is always busy following his philosophy "Work hard, Play hard".
On sunny weekends, he may be seen driving around town in his restored 1965 VW bug.
